Official visit of the OAM delegation to the National Metrology Research Center – Rostest in Russia.
An official and cordial welcome
The OAM delegation was welcomed by Rostest Deputy Director General, Mr. Alexei Valentinovitch Melikhov. This meeting was marked by an exchange of views on best practices in metrology and opportunities for bilateral cooperation in emerging fields.
Discovering the Russian metrological heritage
The visit began with an immersion into Rostest’s historical museum of rare measuring instruments. This museum traces the evolution of metrological devices by showcasing instruments used throughout the centuries, reflecting the rich history of metrology in Russia.
Highlighting scientific and technical developments
The Algerian delegation then attended a detailed presentation of Rostest’s work in the field of metrological support for bioinformatics technologies. Among the flagship projects is the creation of reference samples within the framework of the national “Sovereignty” program, particularly standards for the human DNA genome. These initiatives demonstrate Rostest’s ability to support modern technological needs through rigorous metrological solutions.
Exploring testing and calibration capabilities
The visit continued with a tour of the Testing Center of the FBU “NRC PM – Rostest”, equipped with state-of-the-art technologies to test a wide range of products, including food, chemical, industrial, electrical, and automotive products.
The delegation was able to discover modern equipment and advanced techniques such as HPLC-MS chromatography, GC-MS, PCR, FT-IR spectroscopy, and immunoenzymatic testing.
The center also uses high-tech devices to assess product resistance to shocks, vibrations, extreme climatic conditions, solar radiation, and salt fog. Among its specialized facilities are a chamber dedicated to the energy efficiency of industrial air conditioners, a shielded semi-anechoic chamber, and an acoustic chamber capable of measuring sound levels over a wide range of frequencies.
The metrological complex
One of the highlights of the visit was the presentation of the metrological complex of the FBU “NRC PM – Rostest”, which plays a fundamental role in maintaining Russian national standards. This complex is equipped with advanced technologies for the measurement and calibration of various instruments, including heavy weights, satellite navigation devices, fluid, gas, and electricity meters, as well as road safety control systems.
The Algerian delegation was therefore able to discover these high-precision facilities, exchange with Russian specialists, and learn about the protocols and best practices governing this center of excellence.
Towards a strategic partnership between OAM and Rostest
This visit helped lay the foundations for structured cooperation between OAM and Rostest. Both parties expressed their willingness to strengthen technical exchanges, joint training, the development of national standards, and the sharing of scientific expertise. Particular interest was shown in cooperation in the fields of bioinformatics and quality infrastructure.
A step toward the future
Through this visit, the Algerian Metrology Office reaffirms its commitment to the development of scientific and industrial metrology in Algeria by opening up to renowned international partners. This event represents a new step toward better integration of OAM into the global metrology network.
